Fruitarian diet (Capritto, 2019) and it is all about consumption fruits, nuts and seeds and this type of diet is considered one of the most restrictive. It is said that this diet should consist of 75% raw fruit and 25% nuts and seeds. However, “there is many different interpretations of fruitarianism” (Torrens, 2018) and people match percentage of consumption of fruit seeds or nuts in different ways. There are cases when people who are on this diet consume even 90% fruit and just 10% nuts and seeds (Capritto, 2019). Fruitarian diet also allows to eat tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and avocados which despite being vegetables, are also considered as fruits. Fruitarianism allows you to eat fruit obtained only in a way that does not cause death and destruction of the plant on which they grow, which does not allow excavation, uprooting, cutting and other agricultural activities. It is important that the fruit is organic that means it does not contain pesticides and other chemicals.

One of the most common quuestions is wheter fruitarianism is good for our health? Fruitarian diet raises a lot of controversy because of its restrictiveness and low calories. Due to the limited amount of nutrients, this diet is not recommended as a permanent diet maintained for years. So why in that case people risk risk their health and become fruitarians? What are the benefits of fruitarian diet?
- first of all proponents of this diet assure that fruitarianism has been a natural way of feeding people since prehistoric times.
- has a cleansing and detoxifying effect on the body. It improves digestion thanks to the fiber contained in fruit.
- is a good way to detox your body and quickly lose a few extra pounds in a short time
- research suggests that fruits may also reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.
- a lot of vitamins are provided along with the fruit
What is worth mentioning is that Steve Jobs for a certain period of his life he was also on fruitarian diet. It is believed that after discovering that he was suffering from cancer he focused more on his diet because he believed that a low-protein diet can slow the growth of cancer and prolong a patient’s life. His fascination with fruitarianism helped inspire his company's name which is called “Apple”.
However, known actor Ashton Kutcher who played the role of Steve Jobs and took it really serious before recording shots for the film Job he went on a fruitarian diet. After one month he “ended up in the hospital two days before we started shooting the movie” (Haupt, 2013) and his “pancreas levels were completely out of whack” (Haupt, 2013).

So is it fruitarian diet really healthy?
In my opinion eating only the fruit is unhealthy and such a detox should not exceed one week or two because our body needs the rest of the nutrients that fruit alone doesn't provide.
